Did you know?
MSC Opera takes its opera theme seriously. Every passenger deck is named after a famous opera – from Aida on Deck 5 to La Bohème on Deck 12. The main theatre is called Teatro dell’Opera, making navigation feel like you’re wandering through La Scala rather than just another cruise ship. It’s a clever design touch that actually helps you remember where everything is.
She is perfectly sized for intimate cruising. At 65,591 gross tonnage with 2,658 passengers, she’s roughly half the size of MSC’s newest mega-ships. This means you’ll never feel lost in crowds, restaurant reservations are easier to snag, and you can genuinely learn the ship’s layout in a day or two. Think of her as MSC’s “boutique” experience – all the Italian style without the overwhelming scale.
MSC Opera was built during MSC’s rapid expansion phase. Launched in 2004 as the second ship in the Lirica class, she represents the period when MSC was transforming from a regional Mediterranean line into a global cruise company. At over 20 years old, she’s now one of MSC’s most experienced ships, yet still offers modern amenities like the MSC Aurea Spa and contemporary cabin layouts that rival much newer vessels.
